Erea Decisions LAB
Decisions Lab is EREA Consulting Group’s data division, specialized in analytics for retail and distribution in Latin America.
The practice operates the data office for supermarkets, department stores, specialty retail, and their supplier ecosystems. It functions as a permanent area within the business, with the same continuity as the sales or finance department.
In our experience, it is common for different areas to arrive at a meeting with different figures, each correct within its own context, and for that discrepancy to consume attention before any analysis can begin. It is also common for well-negotiated commercial agreements to fail to materialize as revenue because contractual information lives scattered across systems and invoicing is not executed on time. Decisions Lab exists to solve these kinds of problems structurally, with a dedicated function that addresses them on an ongoing basis.
What the practice delivers
The practice covers three dimensions:
- Data operations. Ongoing management of the data strategy, architecture and infrastructure, data quality and governance, analytics platforms, data processes, and the relationship with technology vendors. This is the foundation everything else runs on.
- Decision analytics. Data products built to leverage the data platform with profitability visibility at the level the decision requires, supplier negotiation intelligence, demand and pricing models. Each product goes through diagnostic, design, development, and operation.
- Data monetization. In most retail operations, information becomes a revenue source. We operate platforms where suppliers pay for commercial visibility they cannot build on their own. The depth of the data foundation determines the value of those products and their revenue trajectory.
Why a continuous function
Most organizations in the region have approved data investments more than once: first as business intelligence, then as data science, now as artificial intelligence. In each cycle the technology and the name change, but what the leadership is after remains the same: business information that is reliable, timely, and useful for decisions. That outcome rarely accumulates from one cycle to the next because the function that should have sustained it had neither the mandate nor the continuity to do so.
Even in organizations with stable, capable teams, keeping the analytical layer aligned with every shift in strategy and every organizational adjustment is a full-time function that ends up competing with the rest of the team’s priorities. Decisions Lab fills that space as a dedicated function.
